2023 Honda City Takes Safety to the Next Level with Petrol Variant Now Equipped with ADAS!

Honda Cars India has launched the refreshed City compact sedan in the country with a price range of Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 20.39 lakh. This midlife update has brought mild design changes, new features, and updated petrol engines that meet the latest stringent emissions norms.

The new base-spec SV and V trim have been introduced for petrol and hybrid variants, respectively. The existing variant prices have been raised by up to Rs 50,000. The design changes include a reworked grille, new alloys, and tweaked bumpers. New features such as wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, and rain-sensing wipers have been added.

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is now available for the petrol-only model. It has just the 1.5-litre petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options. Sadly, the 1.5-litre diesel engine has been removed from the lineup. Thanks to the introduction of new base trims, the starting price of the City petrol has plummeted by Rs 38,000. The hybrid trim is also now more affordable by Rs 1 lakh. However, prices of the other existing variants have seen a significant price hike of up to Rs 50,000.

The 2023 sedan has undergone facelift changes that can only be noticed with a magnifying glass. The revised grille with a slimmer chrome bar and redesigned bumpers are enough to keep things fresh up front. The sedan rolls on new 16-inch alloys, while the rear end now features a spoiler and an updated bumper.

The existing lineup now welcomes a new Obsidian Blue colorway, which includes red, white, grey, silver, and brown.

On the inside, things remain more or less the same as the pre-facelift sedan, but the revised seat upholstery and colors have given the cabin a fresh lease of life. It also has new features such as a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and rain-sensing wipers. Unfortunately, ventilated seats are still not available.

One significant update is that the City’s standard petrol variants will also have ADAS, which was previously limited to the strong-hybrid option. The suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, auto high-beam assist, and frontal collision avoidance system.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine has been discontinued due to low sales, making it a petrol-only model with updated 121PS, 1.5-litre petrol, and 126PS, 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrains, both updated to meet more stringent RDE emission norms. The petrol engine has a six-speed manual and CVT, while the strong-hybrid engine has an e-CVT.

The facelifted Honda City will renew its rivalry with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, VW Virtus, and the upcoming 2023 Hyundai Verna, which will be launched on March 21.
