BMW has launched the first-ever X3 M40i, the sportier version of its midsize SUV, in India. Priced at Rs 86.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the X3 M40i has already started accepting orders for a token amount of Rs 5 lakh. This article will look at what the sportier X3 has to offer.

Sportier Design Elements
The X3 M40i boasts M-specific blacked-out kidney grills and smoked shadow LED headlights, adding to the vehicle’s sporty look. Gloss-black-painted M-specific side mirrors, dual black exhaust pipes, and 20-inch dual-spoke M alloy wheels with red painted brake calipers also contribute to its aggressive appearance.

M Sport Highlights Inside the Cabin
The interior of the X3 M40i features an all-black cabin with Sensatec black upholstery, highlighted by carbon fiber elements. Other features inside the sportier X3 SUV include the M leather steering wheel and M Sport seat belts with red and blue stripes. Additionally, the vehicle comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, three-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory function, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control (ESC) for passenger safety.

More Power Under the Hood
The X3 M40i is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 360PS and 500Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The sportier X3 SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds. Although the X3 M40i and M340i utilize the same engine, the M340i generates 14 horsepower more than the X3 M40i, while both vehicles have identical torque output. The vehicle features BMW’s all-wheel-drive system distributing the power to all four wheels.

More Mechanical Upgrades
The X3 M40i has upgraded mechanicals, including the adaptive M Sport suspension system with electronically controlled dampers, which adjusts itself according to the varying road conditions for better comfort and performance. The M Sport differential system comes as a standard feature, and it uses electronic controls to distribute power to each wheel in order to prevent oversteering or understeering when taking sharp turns. It also features a variable sport steering system for improved feedback and handling, as well as M Sport brakes for better braking performance.

Rivals
BMW’s sportier X3 SUV is priced at Rs 86.50 lakh (ex-showroom Pan India) and competes with the likes of Porsche Macan and Mercedes AMG GLC.
