BYD has officially introduced the Sealion 05 EV, marking its eighth fully electric SUV. Designed on an all-new technology platform, this electric SUV offers rear-wheel drive, two battery options, and a maximum power output of 214hp. The Sealion 05 EV comes equipped with BYD’s advanced God’s Eye C ADAS system, ensuring enhanced safety and driver assistance features.
A New Entry-Level EV in the Sealion Series
The Sealion 05 EV is BYD’s latest all-electric addition to the Sealion lineup.
Both variants come standard with BYD’s God’s Eye C ADAS system.
Offers rear-wheel drive, up to 214hp, and an impressive 520km range.
Distinctive Exterior Styling and Aerodynamic Design
The BYD Sealion 05 EV sets itself apart from its plug-in hybrid counterpart with a completely redesigned exterior. While BYD offers a Sealion 05 PHEV in some international markets, the electric version showcases unique styling and dimensions.

Front Profile
The Sealion 05 EV features a connected LED headlight setup, resembling the design language of the BYD Atto 3.
A wide air dam, integrated sensors and cameras, and a silver skid plate add to the SUV’s dynamic appeal.
Vertically positioned air intakes on both sides contribute to aerodynamics.

Side and Rear Design
Thick plastic cladding with body-colored inserts gives it a bold look.
The black-and-silver finished alloy wheels enhance the sporty stance.
A partially blacked-out D-pillar creates a floating roof effect.
The rear boasts a smoked-effect LED light bar, an illuminated BYD logo, and a roof spoiler for added aerodynamics.

Compact Yet Spacious: Dimensions and Weight
The Sealion 05 EV offers a longer wheelbase than its PHEV variant, enhancing interior space and ride comfort.
Length: 4,520mm
Width: 1,860mm
Height: 1,630mm
Wheelbase: 2,720mm (8mm longer than the PHEV model)
Weight: 1,780kg for the larger battery version, 1,670kg for the standard variant

Performance and Range: Two Battery Options
The BYD Sealion 05 EV operates on a rear-wheel-drive, single-motor layout, delivering efficient performance and an excellent turning radius.
Battery and Powertrain Variants
50kWh battery
188hp output
Claimed range: 430km
60.9kWh battery
214hp output
Claimed range: 520km
Both models come with an electronically limited top speed of 180kph.

Launch and Availability
BYD has announced that the Sealion 05 EV will launch in China on March 25. However, there is no confirmed timeline for an India launch. In 2023, BYD hinted at introducing an electric SUV to compete in the Rs 20 lakh segment, but reports suggest that the Atto 2 might be a more viable contender for the Indian market.
Final Thoughts: A Promising Electric SUV
With its sleek design, extended range, and advanced ADAS features, the BYD Sealion 05 EV is poised to be a strong competitor in the electric SUV segment. Whether it makes its way to global markets remains to be seen, but it undoubtedly adds to BYD’s growing lineup of high-performance EVs.
