Citroen is all set to unveil its latest B-SUV in India on April 27, and it has been confirmed that it will be named the Citroen C3 Aircross. The French carmaker is looking to make a splash in the Indian market with this new model that will take on established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross SUV.
Citroen C3 Aircross: A Fresh Design with a Familiar Name
The Citroen C3 Aircross SUV will be an all-new product for India, but the name itself is not new. The company already sells a crossover with the same name in several other markets, including Europe, for a few years. However, the C3 Aircross that will debut on April 27 will be the second-generation model and could potentially replace the first-generation C3 Aircross globally. The new SUV will be around 4.2 meters long, and it will feature a proper SUV design with a Citroen C3-inspired styling both inside and out.
Citroen C3 Aircross: Powerful Petrol Engine Only
The Citroen C3 Aircross will come with petrol engines only. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out 110hp and 190Nm of torque. This engine, which is currently used in the smaller C3, makes it a peppy little crossover to drive, and it should be enough for the larger C3 Aircross as well. While it remains to be seen what gearbox options the engine comes paired to in the C3 Aircross, it is expected that the company will provide several transmission options to suit different driving preferences. Additionally, an electric powertrain option is also expected to join the lineup later.
Citroen C3 Aircross: Uniquely Designed Interior
The Citroen C3 Aircross is expected to have some switchgear in common with the smaller C3. However, the rest of the interior is expected to be unique to the SUV, as per previous spy shots that have shown the dashboard, infotainment screen position and orientation, seats and other elements that appear unique to the C3 Aircross. There are also talks that the SUV could get a three-row seating layout, but it is unclear if it will be offered at launch.
Citroen C3 Aircross: CMP Modular Platform
The Citroen C3 Aircross will be based on the CMP modular platform, which underpins several Stellantis vehicles from brands like Jeep, Fiat, and the made-in-India Citroen C3. This platform will help Citroen with greater economies of scale, leading to more competitive pricing. The C3 Aircross is entering a segment that has a contender from almost every car brand in India, so pricing is going to be an important factor. With the help of the CMP modular platform, the company is expected to keep the price of the C3 Aircross competitive.
Citroen C3 Aircross: Stiff Competition Expected
The all-new Citroen C3 Aircross SUV is set to go on sale later this year and will compete with other midsize SUVs in the segment, such as the popular Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Harrier, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. The C3 Aircross is expected to have slightly less power compared to its turbo petrol rivals, so its starting price may be aimed at the naturally aspirated petrol variants of the Creta and Seltos, the mild-hybrid Grand Vitara and Harrier, and the 1.0 TSI variants of the Kushaq and Taigun. More details about the C3 Aircross SUV will be revealed as its global debut approaches.
