The highly anticipated facelifted Hyundai i20 has finally hit the Indian roads for testing, giving us a sneak peek into what the updated model has to offer. With design similarities to its globally unveiled counterpart, the India-spec i20 facelift is set to make a statement in the competitive hatchback segment. Let’s delve into the details and explore what this refreshed model brings to the table.

Design Changes that Make a Difference

The test mule of the facelifted i20, though partially disguised, reveals significant design changes, primarily noticeable on the front and rear profiles of the vehicle. While the side profile remains largely unchanged, minor alterations can be seen in the alloy wheel design.

Although the fascia was not captured in the spy shots, we can anticipate mild design revisions, including a tweaked bumper and grille design, similar to the European model. Moving to the rear, the taillamps bear a resemblance to the current model but appear slightly modified, possibly featuring a connecting element, as seen in the current i20. Additionally, two reflector elements on both sides and a redesigned rear bumper add a fresh touch to the facelifted version.

A Glimpse into the Cabin

While there are no spy shots of the interior yet, one of the exterior shots provides a sneak peek inside the cabin. Notably, the facelifted i20 showcases the presence of a dash cam, a likely addition to its features. Hyundai has previously offered this feature in the Venue N Line, and it will make its way into the updated i20 as well. Expectations are high for revised upholstery, a new cabin theme, and slight adjustments to the dashboard design.

Unchanged Powertrain

Under the hood, the facelifted Hyundai i20 is expected to retain the engine options from the outgoing model. This includes a 1.2-liter petrol engine generating 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque, along with a 1-liter turbo-petrol engine delivering 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. The former comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox, while the latter is equipped with a 7-speed DCT.

Enhanced Features

While detailed information on the facelifted i20’s features is currently limited, we can anticipate several upgrades compared to the current model. The new i20 is likely to offer ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and advanced connected car technology. Furthermore, it is expected to carry over the existing features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an air purifier, a wireless phone charger, a single-pane sunroof, up to six airbags, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and electronic stability control (ESC).

The facelifted Hyundai i20 is projected to have a starting price of approximately Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) and may hit the market during the festive season. Once launched, it will continue to compete with popular rivals such as the Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, and Toyota Glanza.

In conclusion, the facelifted Hyundai i20 promises exciting updates in terms of design, features, and performance. With its anticipated arrival, this revamped hatchback aims to leave a lasting impression in the Indian automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates as we await the official launch of this much-awaited model.
