Now, let’s delve deeper into the variant-wise engine-gearbox options of the Hyundai Exter. The 1.2-litre MT powertrain will be available across the entire variant lineup, including the EX, EX (O), S, S (O), SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect. Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre AMT option will be exclusively reserved for the mid-spec S and higher-specced SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect trims.

As for the CNG kit, it will only be offered with the mid-spec S and SX variants, limited to a manual transmission. It’s worth noting that the petrol-MT combo will be the most widely available option across the lineup.

Hyundai Exter:Powertrain

The Exter will be available with the Grand i10 Nios’s 1.2-litre petrol unit (83PS/114Nm), with both 5-speed MT and AMT options. It will also have the same engine with a CNG kit, producing 69PS/95Nm, mated to a 5-speed MT.

Hyundai Exter will have the option to select from 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone color choices. The monotone options include Starry Night, Atlas White, new Ranger Khaki, Fiery Red, Titan Grey, and Cosmic Blue. The dual-tone options are available with Cosmic Blue, Atlas White, and Ranger Khaki. It’s important to note that the dual-tone options are only available with the SX petrol trim. The features that are specific to each variant, however, have not yet been disclosed.

Design and Equipment Details

The Exter is designed to look bold and have a typical boxy appearance, thanks to the chunky wheel arches, body cladding, and roof rails. The exterior features H-shaped LED DRLs and elements in the taillights, big skid plates, and chrome surround for the projector headlights.

Hyundai is yet to reveal the features list of the Exter, but it is expected to come with a single-pane sunroof, auto climate control, a bigger touchscreen unit than the one in the Grand i10 Nios, wireless phone charging, and cruise control. In terms of safety, it is likely to get four airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), and a reversing camera.

The Exter is expected to hit the market in June, with prices starting from Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, as well as the Maruti Fronx, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.
