The 2023 Hyundai Verna has finally made its debut with significant updates that include a revamped design, size, interiors, and engines. The car is ready to take on its competitors in the Indian market, including the Honda City, Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. In this article, we will compare the Hyundai Verna 2023 with its natural rivals to see how it stacks up against them.
Hyundai Verna 2023 Pice Details
The Hyundai Verna 2023 is available in two engine options: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 115bhp and 143.8Nm of torque and a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine that generates 160bhp and 253Nm of torque. The car comes with a six-speed manual transmission, iVT (for NA), and a 7DCT (for Turbo). The EX 1.5-liter 6MT variant of the Verna has priced at Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-of-the-line 1.5-liter Turbo SX(O) 7DCT costs Rs 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom). However, these are introductory prices and will only be available for a limited time.
The Verna also introduces several new features, many of which are segment-firsts and Level-2 ADAS features.
Hyundai Verna 2023 vs. Honda City 2023
The Honda City 2023 comes with a 1.5-liter NA petrol engine with 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. The City Hybrid, on the other hand, features a powerful hybrid system with a combined output of 126bhp and a fuel efficiency of 27.13kmpl. The City’s petrol engine produces slightly more power than the Verna’s NA engine, but the Verna’s Turbo-petrol engine is significantly more powerful than both of the City’s powertrains.
In terms of price, the Honda City 2023 starts at Rs 11.55 lakh and can go up to Rs 15.97 lakh (ex-showroom). The City Hybrid is only available in two trim levels: V (Rs 18.89 lakh) and ZX (Rs 20.39 lakh) (ex-showroom). The City is 4,583mm long (ZX), 1,748mm wide, 1,489mm tall, and has a 2,600mm wheelbase, while the Hyundai Verna 2023 is 4,535mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,475mm tall, with a 2,670mm wheelbase. The Verna outdoes the City in terms of wheelbase and width.
Hyundai Verna 2023 vs Skoda Slavia
The Skoda Slavia is the cousin of the Virtus and shares many of its features, including engines. It is 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide, 1,507mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The Slavia uses the same engines as the Virtus – the 115bhp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and the 150bhp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. It is priced between Rs 11.29 lakh and Rs 18.40 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most expensive cars in its segment.
On the other hand, the Verna starts at a lower price bracket and has a top-end model priced less than the Slavia. The Verna is also slightly longer and wider than the Slavia, with a length of 4,440mm and a width of 1,729mm. Moreover, the Verna offers better fuel efficiency, with a mileage of 21.3 km/l compared to Slavia’s 17.8 km/l.
Hyundai Verna 2023 vs Volkswagen Virtus
One of the critical factors to consider when buying a sedan is its size and dimensions. The Volkswagen Virtus is a decent-sized car that measures 4,561mm in length, 1,752mm in width, and 1,507mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,651mm. The Verna, on the other hand, is shorter in length but wider, and has a longer wheelbase than the Virtus, making it a more spacious car.
The Volkswagen Virtus comes with two engine options – a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol that produces 115bhp and 178Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that generates 150bhp and 250Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Verna’s 1.5-litre NA engine is at par with the 1.0-litre VW motor, but its 1.5-litre Turbo-petrol trumps the 150bhp turbo-petrol in the Virtus, providing a more powerful and responsive drive.
The price is always a significant factor in any car purchase, and the Virtus ranges from Rs 11.31 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a more expensive option than the Verna.
Hyundai Verna 2023 vs Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
In terms of price, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the most affordable model in the segment, with a price range of Rs 9.19 lakh to Rs 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom). However, it falls short in terms of engine power and specs, with a 1.5-litre NA Petrol motor producing only 105bhp and 138Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT. In contrast, the Verna is equipped with a more powerful engine, a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi Diesel engine that produces 115bhp and 250Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.
Moreover, the Verna is longer and wider than the Ciaz, with a length of 4,440mm and a width of 1,729mm. It also has a larger wheelbase of 2,600mm, providing more legroom and comfort to passengers. The Verna’s sleek and aerodynamic design, coupled with its advanced safety features, makes it a clear winner over the Ciaz.
