Kia-Sonet-Facelift

Kia Motors is set to create a buzz in the Indian automotive market with the much-anticipated debut of the Sonet facelift on December 14, 2023. The unveiling will mark the first mid-lifecycle update for the subcompact SUV, introduced to the Indian audience in September 2020. With the official launch expected in January 2024, automotive enthusiasts and prospective buyers are eagerly awaiting the refreshed Sonet’s arrival.

Exterior Revamp: A Visual Delight

The Sonet facelift promises a rejuvenated exterior, embracing a contemporary design language. Leaked images from global markets showcased a redesigned front with new headlamps featuring vertical extensions along the outer edge, complemented by a revised grille and an updated front bumper. While the India-spec model may differ slightly, it is anticipated to incorporate similar exterior enhancements, breathing new life into the SUV’s aesthetic appeal.

Down the sides, the profile and body lines are expected to remain largely unchanged, maintaining the Sonet’s distinctive silhouette. At the rear, the SUV is poised to receive refreshed tail lamps inspired by the larger Seltos, accompanied by an updated rear bumper and alloy wheels. These alterations contribute to an overall modern and stylish appearance.

Interior Upgrades: Elevating Comfort and Technology

Inside the cabin, the Sonet facelift is likely to undergo subtle yet impactful changes. Expect revisions to control surfaces, upholstery, and trim pieces, providing a fresh and refined interior ambiance. Kia is also rumored to enhance the feature list, with a potential addition of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to the top-spec models, aligning the Sonet with cutting-edge automotive technology.

Powertrain Consistency: Engine Line-up Retained

While the exterior and interior undergo significant updates, the powertrain of the Sonet facelift is expected to remain consistent with its predecessor. The SUV is likely to retain the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engines. Transmission options, including the 6-speed iMT gearbox and automatic gearbox variants, are expected to carry over, with a potential addition of a 6-speed manual to the range.

Competition and Expected Pricing

Upon its launch, the refreshed Sonet will enter the competitive arena, challenging rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. With anticipated upgrades and improvements, a marginal increase in prices is expected. For reference, the current Sonet is priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

As the countdown to the Sonet facelift’s debut begins, Kia enthusiasts and SUV aficionados alike are poised for a thrilling introduction to the next chapter of this popular subcompact SUV. Stay tuned for more updates and in-depth insights as the Sonet facelift prepares to make its mark on Indian roads in early 2024.
