Kia Motors India has announced that the order books for its much-awaited 2023 EV6 electric crossover will open on April 15th, 2023. The EV6 is based on Kia’s EV-specific E-GMP platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, the EV6 is sold as a completely built-up unit (CBU) in India, unlike the Ioniq 5. Limited numbers of the EV6 were delivered last year, with 432 units sold in just seven months. In January 2023, the EV6 received a price hike of up to Rs 1 lakh.
Powertrains and Driving Range
The EV6 will come with a 77.4 kWh battery pack and two powertrain options. The single rear-wheel-drive (RWD) motor offers 229PS and 350Nm of torque, while the dual all-wheel-drive (AWD) motor offers 325PS and 605Nm of torque. The EV6 has an impressive driving range of up to 708km (ARAI claimed).

Charging Details
The Kia EV6 supports multiple charging options, including a 350kW DC fast charger, which can charge the vehicle from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. A 50kW DC fast charger can charge the EV6 from 10% to 80% in 73 minutes. Kia plans to expand its 150kW fast charging network from 15 dealerships in 12 cities to 60 outlets in 44 cities across the country.
Features and Safety
The EV6 boasts an array of impressive features, including dual integrated 12.3-inch screens, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, dual-zone climate control, front ventilated and 10-way adjustable powered seats, and an electric sunroof. In terms of safety, it comes equipped with eight airbags, electronic stability control, and numerous advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) functionalities such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind spot monitoring.

V2L Functionality and Pricing
The EV6 also features a unique vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality that provides an AC power output for the operation of several electronic products and to meet supplementary power requirements. The EV6 is offered in two variants, the GT Line and GT Line AWD, priced at Rs 60.95 lakh and Rs 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India) respectively. It takes on rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Kia’s 2023 EV6 electric crossover is a highly anticipated offering that has been making headlines for all the right reasons. With impressive powertrains, an excellent driving range, and a full suite of ADAS tech, the EV6 has quickly become a crowd favorite. Kia’s expansion plans for its charging network will also help make electric vehicle ownership more accessible to consumers across India. With the opening of order books on April 15th, 2023, the EV6 is poised to make a big impact in India’s electric vehicle market.
