Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to revolutionize India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape by building a comprehensive charging and service infrastructure in parallel with the highly anticipated launch of its first electric SUV, the e Vitara. The India debut of the Maruti e Vitara was one of the major highlights at Auto Expo 2025. Scheduled for release in March 2025, this model aims to take on competitors such as Tata Motors, Mahindra, and MG Motor in the rapidly growing midsize electric SUV segment.
Key Highlights of Maruti's EV Strategy
- Extensive DC Fast Charging Network: Over 100 cities to receive DC fast chargers.
- Exclusive Sales through Nexa Showrooms: Premium retail experience for customers.
- Vast Service Network: More than 1,500 EV-ready service centers in 1,000+ cities.
- Free Home Charging Solution: Complimentary AC wall-box charger with every e Vitara.
- Significant Investment: Rs 2,100 crore allocated to e Vitara manufacturing.
Maruti 'e for Me' EV Ecosystem: A Customer-Centric Approach
To ensure a hassle-free ownership experience, Maruti has introduced the ‘e for Me’ ecosystem, which leverages its extensive nationwide network. This initiative aims to provide customers with the confidence to transition to EVs by offering comprehensive charging and maintenance solutions.

Nationwide Charging Infrastructure
With the launch of the e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki plans to establish a robust charging network across India’s top 100 cities in the initial phase. According to Maruti Suzuki MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi, “Our goal is to have a Maruti charging station available every 5 to 10 kilometers within these cities.” This strategic move aims to eliminate range anxiety and encourage more consumers to embrace electric mobility.
EV-Ready Service Centers
Beyond charging, Maruti is preparing its extensive service network to support EVs. Over 1,500 workshops across 1,000 cities will be equipped with specialized tools and trained technicians to handle EV maintenance and repairs. Additionally, Maruti plans to deploy EV-ready mobile service vans to cater to remote areas, ensuring support reaches customers wherever they are.

Smart Mobile App for Seamless Experience
To complement the physical infrastructure, Maruti will introduce a dedicated mobile app for e Vitara owners. The app will feature real-time public charger availability, booking options, and payment integration. While details remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that Maruti might expand compatibility to include third-party charging networks, similar to Hyundai’s recent in-car payment system.
India: Suzuki's Global EV Production Hub
Suzuki Motor Corporation has made a strategic decision to position India as its global production hub for electric vehicles. With an investment of Rs 2,100 crore, the e Vitara will be manufactured exclusively in India and exported to over 100 countries, including key markets in Europe and Japan. Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki emphasized, “India offers quality products and scale advantages, making it an ideal hub for our global BEV production.”
This decision not only strengthens India’s position in the global EV market but also raises the possibility of additional Suzuki EV models being introduced domestically. Industry experts speculate that the Suzuki eWX compact electric hatchback could be one of the upcoming models, offering an affordable entry point for urban buyers.

The Future of Maruti's EV Lineup
While the e Vitara marks Maruti’s first step into the electric vehicle segment, the automaker has ambitious plans for the future. With India as its central production base, Maruti aims to introduce a wider range of EVs tailored for both domestic and international markets.
Maruti Suzuki’s aggressive push into the EV market, with a well-structured charging and service ecosystem, is poised to make electric mobility more accessible and convenient for Indian consumers. With the upcoming launch of the e Vitara and the promise of widespread infrastructure, Maruti is set to challenge established EV players and pave the way for a sustainable automotive future in India.
