Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its most powerful car, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance in India. The car boasts impressive powertrain details and an attractive design that’s sure to turn heads. This top-of-the-line model of the GT four-door series is a plug-in hybrid, much to the dismay of some AMG fanatics. However, it has a maximum power output of 843 bhp and torque of 1,470 Nm, making it the most powerful car ever to come out of Affalterbach.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance - Exterior Design
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a beautifully designed car that instantly grabs attention. The car’s front end features a large Panamericana grille with vertical struts, while the lower section of the nose houses three wide openings to feed air to the engine. The headlamps are Multibeam LEDs, which are standard on this model. The long hood has three contoured lines, lending it a muscular look.

The car’s body takes after the GT four-door coupe’s design, featuring a lengthy hood, four doors, and a slanted roofline at the back. Its dimensions include a length of 5,054 mm, width of 1,953 mm, and a height of 1,447 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,951 mm. This car offers a choice of four different alloy wheel options, and the one in question is fitted with 21-inch AMG forged alloys paired with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is equipped with various exterior accessory packages including a night pack, carbon fiber pack, and aero pack. The carbon fiber pack can be seen on the front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and headlamp inserts. The car has seventeen exterior color options, including Copper Orange Magno, which is seen in the images. The rear of the car features a manually adjustable retractable wing, while the taillights are elongated and wrap around the car’s sides.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance - Powertrain
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is unique because, for the first time in an AMG, it employs an electric motor. The car features a V8 M177 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine that produces 639 bhp, combined with an electric motor that makes 204 bhp. The motor is mounted at the rear, below the 6.1 kWh battery pack, giving the car a sought-after 50:50 weight balance. The electric motor sends power to the rear axle through a two-speed gearbox, enabling it to function at higher speeds. The car’s rear axle also gets an electronically controlled differential, and the 4MATIC+ AWD system can even route power from the motor to the front axle.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance can launch from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.9 seconds, despite its 2.4-ton mass, putting it in supercar territory. The car’s top speed is limited to 316 kmph. The 6.1 kWh battery pack is tiny by modern hybrid standards, but it can power the car for a total of 12 km and up to a speed of 130 kmph. The HPB (High-performance battery) has been developed by AMG using technologies from Formula 1, and it has twice the power density of a normal PHEV battery. There are multiple regen modes in the car to recharge the battery as you drive.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance - Interior

The interior of the car, much like the exterior, boasts several sporty and AMG-specific features. These include electrically adjustable and heated/ventilated AMG seats, AMG steering, AMG scuff plates, AMG floor mats, and AMG embossed seats. Additionally, the car now comes equipped with a twin-display setup, each measuring 12.3 inches. The dashboard is wrapped in leather and features carbon fiber inserts, while the AMG Performance steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather with a flat bottom, perforated grips, and aluminum shift paddles. The large center console houses the controls for the air conditioning and infotainment, which includes a Burmester surround sound system and a 360-degree camera.

The GT 63 S E Performance also comes with the latest MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system that includes a voice assistant, natural language recognition, and augmented reality navigation, among other features. The MBUX system can also display various performance-related data on the screens, such as the electric motor’s power output, battery level, and regen rates.
Overall, the interior of the GT 63 S E Performance is a perfect blend of luxury and sportiness, with high-quality materials and attention to detail that are expected from a car in this segment.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a unique and impressive offering from AMG, combining the best of both worlds – performance and sustainability. The hybrid powertrain provides mind-boggling power and torque figures, making it a true supercar killer, while the electric motor and battery pack provide a decent range of electric-only driving.
The exterior design is instantly recognizable as an AMG, with the classic aggressive look that has made AMGs so sought after, and the interior is a perfect blend of luxury and sportiness, with high-quality materials and attention to detail.
Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a stunning grand tourer that is sure to turn heads and provide a thrilling driving experience. It may not be a traditional AMG, but it certainly has the AMG DNA running through its veins.
