The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been unveiled and it promises to deliver more than just a facelift. The new model is larger, more spacious, and packed with advanced technology features that have been integrated to provide a more comfortable driving experience. The German luxury marque has placed a lot of focus on utilizing artificial intelligence and automation, both inside and outside the vehicle, to pamper potential buyers.

Bigger and More Spacious
The new E-Class, codenamed the ‘214’, is bigger than its predecessor, with a 20mm longer wheelbase that has translated into better interior space. The updated version of the firm’s MRA architecture has clear echoes of the all-electric Mercedes EQ sedans and the imperious S-Class. The car comes with a large and upright grille, quad headlights, clean surfacing, and horizontal tail-lights featuring 3D three-pointed stars. The new E-Class has a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd thanks to its sleek bodywork and flush-fitting door handles. It also offers a boot space of 540 liters, except for the plug-in hybrid models, which have a slightly smaller boot space of 370 liters.
Technology at Its Best
The E-Class has always been about spoiling its occupants, and the new model is no different. The Overseas, the MBUX Superscreen is available as an optional feature, which includes three screens integrated behind a contoured glass panel on the dashboard. The Superscreen incorporates two screens under a single, unified glass panel, featuring one center-mounted screen measuring 14.4 inches and another screen facing the front passenger. The digital instruments display is shown on the third screen, which measures 12.2 inches.

Moreover, Mercedes-Benz has included a ‘selfie’ camera on top of the dashboard to enable passengers to take part in Zoom/Webex meetings (only when the vehicle is stationary) and capture memories during their journeys. The MBUX system incorporates artificial intelligence to automate select comfort-oriented functions, which occupants can link to specific conditions, such as seat heating and active ambient lighting.
Advanced Powertrain Options
The latest E-Class model is now available in a range of engine options, both petrol and diesel, with four and six cylinders. These engines are paired with a hybrid electric system. The four-cylinder choices, including the E200, E220d, and E220d 4MATIC, come with a mild-hybrid system that offers an additional 23 bhp and 205 Nm of torque using the ‘Boost’ function. These models can go from 0 to 100 kph in just over 7 seconds and have a top speed of over 230 kph.

The six-cylinder petrol versions, E300, E300 4MATIC, and E400 4MATIC, are equipped with a plug-in hybrid system, which features a significant 25.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. All plug-in hybrid E-Class models can travel over 100 kilometers in electric-only mode, according to the WLTP cycle. The plug-in models can produce peak outputs ranging from 308 bhp to 375 bhp, with torque outputs ranging from 550 Nm to 650 Nm. The top-of-the-line E400 4MATIC can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.3 seconds. Mercedes also plans to launch six-cylinder diesel plug-in hybrid models soon.
Upcoming Release in India
The upcoming months will mark the debut of the long-wheelbase version of the new E-Class in India. The new E-Class is anticipated to arrive in India in early 2024.

In conclusion, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a substantial upgrade from its predecessor, with its increased size and advanced technology. Mercedes-Benz has put great emphasis on electrification, offering a range of plug-in hybrid powertrains with larger battery packs for electric-only driving. The new E-Class also comes with a luxurious and comfortable interior, featuring the MBUX Superscreen and innovative AI-powered comfort functions. With its sleek design, the new E-Class is sure to appeal to luxury car buyers who prioritize technology and comfort. Overall, Mercedes-Benz has once again delivered a top-of-the-line luxury vehicle that sets a high standard for the automotive industry.
