April 2023 is set to be a big month for car launches in India, with four highly anticipated new cars set to hit the market. From the mass-market category to the top-rung performance segment, the launches promise to offer something for everyone. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Launch: Mid-April

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its new Fronx compact crossover in mid-April. Based on the Baleno hatchback, the Fronx is a compact coupe-crossover that boasts a turbo-petrol engine, marking the first turbo-petrol engine to join Maruti’s stable since the discontinuation of the Baleno RS. The Fronx will be powered by a new 100hp, 1.0-litre turbo unit, which will be offered with a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Maruti’s tried and tested 90hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will also be available with a 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox. The Fronx will share many interior parts with the Baleno and will be sold through the Nexa outlets. The price is expected to be in the range of Rs 8 lakh-11 lakh, and will be announced by the second week of April.

The highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT63 S e-Performance 4-door coupe is set to be launched on April 11. It will be the first plug-in hybrid from AMG and the most powerful production car that Mercedes produces. The GT63 S e-Performance will be powered by a 639hp, 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, coupled with a 204hp electric motor. The combined output of these two power sources will be a staggering 843hp and over 1,400Nm of torque. The GT63 S e-Performance will also have an electric-only range of 12km, and the electric motor alone can achieve a top speed of 130kph. It will feature AMG-specific styling with large gaping air intakes on the front bumper, a Panamericana grille, bespoke alloy wheels, and a spoiler on the boot lid. The expected price is above Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom).

The Lamborghini Urus S, a super SUV, is set to be launched on April 13. It is designed to be a more comfort-oriented version of the Urus, and will be positioned below the track-focused Urus Performante. The Urus S and the Performante have an identical engine – a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol engine with 666 horsepower, which is coupled with an 8-speed torque converter unit. The main difference between the two is the suspension, with the Performante using fixed coil springs and the S getting adaptive air suspension. The Urus S will retain regular off-road modes – Sand, Snow, and Mud – while the Performante gets a Rally mode. With the Performante priced at Rs 4.22 crore (ex-showroom, India), expect the Urus S to be priced below it.
