Nissan is gearing up to launch a brand-new C-segment SUV in India by FY2026, positioned as a direct competitor to the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Grand Vitara. This upcoming SUV will be built on the CMF-B platform, the same as the next-generation Renault Duster, and will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai for both domestic and export markets.
New Nissan SUV: Exterior Design
The new Nissan SUV shares its rugged silhouette with the Renault Duster but incorporates unique design elements inspired by the Nissan Patrol. The first official images reveal a bold front fascia featuring L-shaped LED DRLs connected by a chrome strip. Additionally, two slim chrome bars extend across the width of the grille, highlighting the Nissan logo at the center.

Distinctive design cues include:
Slimmer headlights
Horizontally slatted grille
Reshaped front bumpers with thick C-shaped silver cladding
Pronounced creases and scoops on the bonnet
Multi-spoke alloy wheels with a unique design
The teaser images showcase a concept model, so some design elements may be toned down in the production version.
New Nissan SUV: Interior Features
While Nissan has not released official interior images, the SUV is expected to share its layout with the Renault Duster but with a more premium feature set. Reports suggest that Nissan’s version will offer higher-end specifications but fewer trim levels.
Key interior features may include:
10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a customized UI
7-inch digital instrument cluster
360-degree camera system
Rear AC vents
Automatic climate control
Multiple drive modes
While an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite is available in the international Renault Duster, it remains uncertain if the India-spec models, including Nissan’s version, will receive these advanced safety features.
New Nissan SUV: Engine and Transmission
Nissan has confirmed that the new SUV will be a petrol-only model, featuring a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 154hp and 250Nm of torque. The powertrain will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, it remains unclear whether Nissan will offer a manual transmission or an AWD variant, as seen in the global Duster lineup.
New Nissan SUV: Name and Market Positioning
While Nissan has yet to confirm the name of this new SUV, reports suggest that the brand may not revive the Terrano nameplate, given its lukewarm reception in the Indian market. Instead, the SUV will be positioned above the Renault Duster and directly compete with segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta.
Additionally, Nissan plans to introduce a 7-seater version of this SUV, alongside Renault’s counterpart, by the end of FY2026. More details regarding trims, pricing, and features will be revealed closer to the launch.
Stay tuned for further updates on Nissan’s highly anticipated Creta rival!
