
The SUV market in India is expanding every year, and it accounted for 43% of the passenger vehicle (PV) market in FY23, reaching 1,673,488 units. According to industry experts, this number is expected to increase further and plateau at around 48-49%. Last year, several formidable SUV models were launched in the country. For this year, we have identified the top five upcoming SUVs in India that you need to keep an eye on.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the Jimny in India in May, and it’s part of the carmaker’s plan to strengthen its SUV portfolio, which currently includes the newly-launched Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara. The five-door off-roader is expected to be priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will come equipped with a 1.5-liter K15B petrol engine (103PS/134Nm) and will be available in both 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT options. The SUV will come with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO 4WD technology with a low-range transfer gear (4L mode) as standard.
Hyundai Exter

Hyundai recently released a teaser image of the Exter micro-SUV, which is set to launch in India during the festive season this year. The Exter will add more depth to Hyundai’s SUV portfolio, which already includes the legendary Creta, Venue, Alcazar, and Tucson. The Exter is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will come equipped with the 1.2-liter Kappa petrol engine (83PS/114Nm), which is also used in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Hyundai Aura. It will be available in both 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT options.
Tata Nexon Facelift

The Tata Nexon is currently the largest-selling SUV in India. The updated version of the vehicle has been spotted testing on several occasions. The Nexon facelift is expected to come with major exterior and interior updates, and it’s expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The upcoming model is expected to retain the current engine options, which include the Revotron 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine (with 120PS/170Nm output) and the Revotorq 1.5-liter diesel engine (with 115PS/260Nm output). The transmission options are likely to remain the same as well, with 6-speed manual transmission (MT) and 6-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) available.
Kia Seltos Facelift

Since its launch in August 2019, the Kia Seltos has been one of the top-selling SUVs in India. The car manufacturer is anticipated to release an updated model in India this year. It is expected that the Kia Seltos facelift will have a price range of Rs 10.89 lakh to Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom) and will come with three engine choices: a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine.
New Honda SUV

Honda is set to launch an all-new SUV in India during the festive season. Among its competitors, this SUV will compete with vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Kia Seltos. It’s expected to come with a couple of powertrain options, including a 1.5-liter VTEC DOHC petrol and a hybrid electric.
