Skoda's Special Edition Breaks the Mold: Available on Base-Spec Active Variant

Skoda has recently introduced a special edition of their popular compact SUV, the Kushaq, known as the Onyx edition. Interestingly, the Onyx edition is based on the basic Active manual variant, which is uncommon for special editions, as they are typically based on top-spec trims. This decision by Skoda makes the Onyx edition more accessible to customers who prefer the base variant of the Kushaq.

Cosmetic Modifications

The Onyx edition of the Kushaq features some noticeable cosmetic modifications on the exterior. It comes with new wheel covers, grey decals on the front and rear doors, and “Onyx” badging on the B pillars, which gives it a more premium look. However, there are no cosmetic alterations made to the interior cabin of the car.

In addition to the cosmetic modifications, the Onyx edition also offers some supplementary features. It comes equipped with LED headlamps, daytime running lights (DRLs), fog lamps with cornering function, automatic climate control, rear wiper, and a rear defogger. The Onyx edition also includes the existing features of the base variant, such as a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, six speakers, rear AC vents, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and three-point seat belts for all passengers.

Under the Hood

The Kushaq Onyx edition is powered by the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 115PS and 178Nm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The higher trims of the Kushaq offer the option of a six-speed torque converter automatic with the same engine, while top variants provide the option of a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 150PS and 250Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT).

The pricing of the Onyx edition is expected to be slightly higher than the standard Active manual variant, which is priced at Rs 12.4 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda Kushaq Onyx Edition Rival

The Skoda Kushaq is a direct competitor to other popular compact SUVs on the market, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. Overall, the Onyx edition of the Kushaq is an attractive option for customers who are looking for a compact SUV with some added features and a more premium look.
