Tata Nexon Reaches 5 Lakh Units Milestone in Just Six Years

Tata Motors, the Indian automaker, has announced that its popular compact SUV, the Tata Nexon, has reached a significant milestone by producing 5 lakh units within just six years since its launch. This remarkable achievement cements the Nexon’s position as one of Tata’s key products, and it remains in its first generation.

The Nexon’s popularity has grown considerably over the years, with production reaching 4 lakh units in September 2022 and 5 lakh units in less than seven months. What makes the Nexon stand out is that it is the only sub-Rs 20 lakh SUV available in petrol, diesel, and BEV forms.

The Nexon had a slow start, but it gained momentum after it secured a full five-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. It has maintained its position as India’s highest-selling SUV, surpassing the 5 lakh units production milestone. The Nexon has managed to achieve this feat despite fierce competition from other sub-four-metre SUVs such as Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.

Tata Nexon: A Consistent Seller for the Indian Automaker

In the past few years, the Tata Nexon has consistently been selling well for Tata Motors, especially since the release of the facelift in early 2020. The Nexon’s price range starts at Rs 7.80 lakh for the base variant and goes up to Rs 14.35 lakh for the range-topping model (ex-showroom). It is available in both petrol and diesel variants, with a 1.2L three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine and a 1.5L four-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine.

Both powertrains come with a manual transmission as standard, while a six-speed AMT is an option. The Nexon’s exceptional build quality and a Global NCAP safety rating of five stars make it a popular choice among car buyers.

Tata Nexon's Future

The Tata Nexon is expected to receive a significant update later this year, which could bring key new features, fresh styling, and a new 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. This update will ensure that the Nexon remains a competitive player in the market, and it is likely to help maintain its position of strength.

In conclusion, the Tata Nexon’s milestone of producing 5 lakh units in just six years is a remarkable achievement that underscores the vehicle’s popularity and position as a key product for Tata Motors. Its exceptional build quality, combined with its availability in petrol, diesel, and BEV forms, makes it stand out among its competitors. With a substantial update expected later this year, the Nexon’s future looks bright, and it is likely to continue to be a popular choice among car buyers.
