The financial year 2023 was a milestone year for the automotive industry in India, with record-breaking sales volumes of 3,889,545 units. This surpasses the previous best of 3,377,436 units achieved in FY19. The SUV segment, in particular, was the largest contributor to this growth, accounting for sales of 1,673,488 units. Among these sales were ten of the best-selling SUVs in FY23.
Mahindra & Mahindra dominated the top 10 best-selling SUVs list in FY23, with three of their models featuring in the list, while Tata, Hyundai, and Kia each had two models. Maruti Suzuki India had only one model in the list.
Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza clinch top three spots
The Tata Nexon remained at the top of the list with 172,138 units sold in FY23. The Hyundai Creta followed closely behind with 150,372 units sold, while the Maruti Suzuki Brezza secured the third spot with 145,665 units sold.
Tata Punch, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra Bolero follow closely
The Tata Punch continued to perform impressively, with sales of 133,819 units in FY23, closely followed by the Hyundai Venue, which registered sales of 120,653 units. Mahindra’s flagship SUV, the Bolero, once again proved its dominance in the market by clocking sales of 100,577 units.
Kia Seltos, Sonet, and Mahindra Scorpio make it to the top 10
The Kia Seltos managed to sell 100,132 units, while the Kia Sonet lagged behind with 94,096 units sold. The Mahindra Scorpio rounded up the top ten list with sales of 76,935 units.
Mahindra XUV700 claims the 10th position
The Mahindra XUV700, the most premium SUV in this category, made it to the list with sales volumes of 66,473 units.
