In February 2023, the top 10 car sales in India reached 1,51,448 units, a growth of 20.84 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis compared to 1,25,333 units sold in February 2022. However, sales declined by 2.08 percent compared to 1,54,669 units sold in January 2023.

Maruti Suzuki secured the top spot, with its models claiming seven out of 10 positions on the list. Tata Motors and Hyundai shared the remaining three spots.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno remained the most sold car in February 2023, with 18,592 units sold. It saw a substantial YoY growth of 47.91 percent from 12,570 units sold in February 2022, indicating its popularity in the market. It also commanded a 12.28 percent share of the list.

 

Meanwhile, the Maruti Swift hatchback, which has been in the market for over 15 years, was the second most sold car, with 18,412 units sold in February 2023, despite a 4.11 percent YoY de-growth from 19,202 units sold in February 2022.

Maruti Suzuki Alto, which was at the top of the list in January 2023, slipped to the third position in February 2023, with 18,114 units sold. It posted a YoY growth of 56.82 percent from 11,551 units sold in February 2022, but MoM sales dipped by 15.40 percent from 21,411 units sold in January 2023.

The WagonR was at the fourth position, with sales of 16,889 units, a 15.13 percent YoY growth from 14,669 units sold in February 2022. In contrast, it saw a MoM decline of 17.48 percent compared to 20,466 units sold in January 2023, when it was at the second position on the list.

Sales for the DZire sedan were at 16,798 units in February 2023, with a 3.67 percent YoY de-growth from 17,438 units sold in February 2022. MoM sales, however, improved by 48.43 percent from 11,317 units sold in January 2023. It had an 11.09 percent share on the list in February 2023, up from 7.32 percent in January 2023.

Maruti Brezza posted YoY and MoM growth in sales in February 2023, with 15,787 units sold, up 70.56 percent YoY and 9.94 percent MoM. In February 2022 and January 2023, there were 9,256 units and 14,359 units sold, respectively. This was the first time in months that Maruti Brezza claimed the top spot for SUVs, beating Tata Nexon, which had been the top-selling SUV in India for many months.

Nexon sales increased by 13.50 percent year-over-year (YoY) with 13,914 units sold, up from 12,259 units sold in February 2022. However, month-over-month (MoM) sales dipped by 10.62 percent from 15,567 units sold in January 2023. The Nexon facelift has been spotted undergoing testing, featuring a range of exterior and interior updates, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The vehicle is set to launch in early 2024.

Maruti Eeco van sales grew by 23.53 percent YoY, with 11,352 units sold in February 2023 compared to 9,190 units sold in February 2022. However, there was a MoM de-growth of 3.05 percent from 11,709 units sold in January 2023. The Eeco van, which was launched in 2010, has achieved a milestone sales figure of 10 lakh units, making it the top-selling van in India.

Tata Punch secured the 9th position with a YoY growth of 16.44 percent, selling 11,169 units in February 2023, up from 9,592 units sold in February 2022. However, the vehicle suffered a MoM de-growth of 6.97 percent from 12,006 units sold in January 2022.

Hyundai Creta ranked 10th in the list of best-selling cars in February 2023, with 10,421 units sold, up 8.48 percent from 9,606 units sold in February 2022. However, MoM sales dipped by 30.70 percent from 15,037 units sold in January 2023, when it held the 6th position.
