In this blog post, we discuss the temporary unavailability of the top trims of the Toyota Innova Hycross due to supply chain issues. We provide details on the affected models and explain the reasons for the delay. Stay informed by reading our post.
The global crises have disrupted the automotive industry’s supply chain, and Toyota’s newly launched Innova Hycross is among the affected vehicles. Due to supply chain issues, Toyota has temporarily suspended the booking of select higher-spec variants of the MPV.
As of April 8, 2023, Toyota will no longer take orders for the Hycross’ top trims, ZX and ZX(O), while the lower and mid-spec trims – G, GX, VX, and VX(O) – will still be available for booking. Toyota has clarified that the bookings of the other grades of Innova Hycross, including both hybrid and gasoline versions, will continue.
Premium Features of ZX and ZX(O) Top Trims
The ZX and ZX(O) top trims of Innova Hycross are equipped with advanced features such as powered second-row seats and driver-assistance tech (ADAS). The ZX trim includes daytime running lights (DRLs) with integrated turn signals, 18-inch alloy wheels, powered second-row Ottoman seats, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, eight-way powered driver seat with memory function, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system. The top ZX(O) trim-level adds a full suite of driver-assistance functions, including lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beam (adaptive headlights), and forward collision avoidance.
ICE and Strong-Hybrid Variants
Innova Hycross G and GX variants are internal combustion engine (ICE)-only, powered by a 174PS, 2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine paired with an automatic transmission. The VX, VX(O), ZX, and ZX(O) are the strong-hybrid variants, delivering a combined output of 186PS and a claimed fuel economy of 21.1kmpl.
Semiconductor Shortage and Supply Chain Issues
Globally, the semiconductor shortage has been a contributing factor to the ongoing supply chain issues. This shortage affects the production of electronic components, which is unfortunate for a feature-loaded, all-new vehicle like the Innova Hycross that has more electronic features than any previous Innova. Most of these features are operated by complex electronic systems that use semiconductors. Thus, the ZX and ZX(O) trim levels are most affected by the supply chain issues.
What Should You Do If You Want to Buy an Innova Hycross?
If you’re planning to buy the Toyota Innova Hycross for its premium features and ADAS, it’s best to wait until the top trim levels become available again. On the other hand, the available lower and mid-spec variants still offer decent features, along with ICE and hybrid powertrain options. The Innova Hycross is priced from Rs 18.55 lakh onwards (ex-showroom) and is an upgrade over people movers such as the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo, and the Toyota Innova Crysta, and a less expensive option than the Kia Carnival.
To sum up, the ongoing supply chain issues have affected the automotive industry worldwide, including the Toyota Innova Hycross. Toyota has temporarily stopped taking bookings for the ZX and ZX(O) top trims due to the semiconductor shortage. Meanwhile, lower variants of Innova Hycross are still available for booking. If you’re looking for premium features and ADAS, it’s best to wait until the top trims become available again. However, if you’re in a hurry, the available lower and mid-spec variants still offer decent features and powertrain options.
