The burgeoning market for hybrid vehicles underwent significant expansion with the introduction of new models, including the Toyota Hybrid, Honda City Hybrid, and Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid. Despite the fact that India’s adoption of powerful hybrid technology is still in its nascent stages, it holds great potential in light of the dwindling availability of diesel engines on the market.

Currently, Toyota’s Hyryder is the top-selling strong hybrid model, followed by the Grand Vitara and City. In order to capture a larger share of this burgeoning market, Maruti Suzuki and Honda are developing new models. The forthcoming powerful hybrid SUV and MPV are detailed below, along with some of their critical specifications.

The brand-new mid-size Honda SUV will debut worldwide in June 2023 before being sold in India. It will use the City platform and share design components with numerous Honda SUVs sold around the world. Its length will range from 4.2 to 4.3 meters, and it will offer two powertrain options: a 1.5-liter gasoline engine or a 1.5-liter gasoline engine combined with a potent hybrid drivetrain.

Initially, however, only the gasoline-powered engine will be available. Both a six-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) will be available. The vehicle may also feature an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), connected car technology, a 360-degree rotating camera, and multiple airbags. The new Honda SUV is expected to cost between 12 lakh and 19 lakh rupees.

Maruti Suzuki plans to enter the premium multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) market later this year. According to rumors, the vehicle will debut in August 2023. The Toyota Innova Hycross, which includes a 2.0L petrol strong hybrid and a 2.0L normally aspirated petrol engine as standard, will be the starting point for the vehicle. The former generates 186 horsepower and 206 Newton-meters of torque, while the latter produces only 174 horsepower and 205 Newton-meters. The same powertrains will be available for the new Maruti MPV. It will be the first Indo-Japanese automaker product to be equipped with ADAS technology. Its capabilities and components will be similar to those of the Toyota Innova Hybrid, but the automaker intends to make minor cosmetic changes to the new MPV.
