Maruti Brezza CNG has been introduced, becoming the first subcompact SUV in its category to come equipped with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Previous claims that it would be the initial CNG model to have an automatic transmission have now been put to rest as it only offers a manual gearbox for now.
The Maruti Brezza CNG is priced at Rs. 9.14 lakhs (ex-showroom) and comes in three different trims: LXi, VXi, and ZXi. While the CNG variants are Rs. 95,000 more expensive than their petrol counterparts, they are equipped with a CNG kit that is paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 88 PS and 122 Nm.
Variants
Maruti has launched the Brezza CNG as part of its CNG lineup, with the CNG kit offered with all variants of the Brezza except for the top-spec ZXi+ trim. The CNG kit has a price premium of Rs. 95,000 over its petrol-powered counterpart and is available in the LXi, VXi, and ZXi trims.
Powertrains
The CNG kit is paired with the Brezza’s 1.5-liter petrol engine, producing an output of 88 PS and 122 Nm when driving in CNG mode, which is lower than the petrol’s 101 PS and 136 Nm. The power is transferred to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
Despite its lower output, the Maruti Brezza CNG is the most fuel-efficient option, with a fuel efficiency figure of 25.51 km/kg compared to the petrol variant’s 20.15 kmpl. The CNG kit is also offered in higher trims of the Brezza, which means that customers will not have to compromise comfort for fuel efficiency.
Features
The Brezza CNG is equipped with a range of features such as cruise control, an electric sunroof, a nine-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless push-button start, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, electric ORVM, and more. Safety features include ESP, hill-hold assist, dual airbags, manual IRVM, rear wiper and washer, and ISOFIX child anchorages. However, it lacks some features such as six airbags, a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, and wireless phone charging.
Maruti now has a total of 14 CNG-equipped vehicles in its lineup, and the Maruti Brezza CNG has no direct rivals as it is the first subcompact SUV to come equipped with a factory-fitted CNG kit. However, the standard petrol-powered sub-four-meter SUV rivals include Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and the Renault Kiger.
