The off-roader will be available exclusively in the four-wheel drive (4WD) configuration. According to a senior company official, the Jimny represents classic 4WD, and there is no need to offer a 2WD variant.

Expected Price Range for Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is expected to be priced between Rs 9 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Maruti Suzuki Fronx will have a price range between Rs 6.75 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs. Mahindra Thar

Mahindra recently introduced the rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant of the Thar to cater to a broader audience. Earlier, the Thar was available only in 4WD configuration. In comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will remain a 4WD exclusive.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Variants and Features

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will come in two top variants, Zeta and Alpha. The brand believes that its customers will require all the features offered in these two top variants. Therefore, there are no lower variants like Sigma and Delta.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny's Engine

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is set to come equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, known as the K15B, which is capable of producing a maximum power of 105PS and a peak torque of 134Nm. This engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. It is worth noting that other Maruti vehicles use K15C 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny's Legacy

Maruti’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), CV Raman, emphasized that the Jimny has a legacy and represents classic 4WD. Therefore, there is no need to offer a 2WD variant as it is against the ethos of the brand. Furthermore, the engine used in the Jimny is already present in the three-door version, and the only difference between the three-door and five-door versions is post the B-pillar. Rest everything, including the engine, is the same.
